Arias, Subacz duel as Dragons capture “Gold”

With their ticket punched to the JCC of Bayonne Jr. Division Indoor Soccer “Gold Medal” round, the (5-4) Dragons headed for a clash with the (5-3) Wizards. Trading scores in the early going, both squads stood at 3-3 with Dylan Subacz (Wizards) and Thomas Arias (Dragons) hitting the trifecta. For the Wizards, Adonis White (2) and NazarKolesnyk (1) pitched in with assists while Arias benefited from zip-line passes by Anthony Baez (2) and David Matos (1). With under ten minutes remaining, the Wizards took a 4-3 lead as Subacz cashed in with an unassisted goal. Trailing by one and facing the Wizard’s swarming defense, the Dragons got a huge boast as Amy Gabrael tied the bout at 4 all with a scoring bullet. Locked in a nose to nose brawl, the Wizards’ Gage Orlowski, William Hulsman, and Toni “The Tiger” Rivada anchored the defensive ranks while Joyce Gabrael, Brenden McCall, and David Matos ruled the Dragons’ defensive zone. As both teams battled for every possession, it took a titanic effort for the Dragons’ Thomas Arias to slip free and fire in his forth net gem of the game. Down but not out, the Wizards turned the final seconds into a drama packed heart stopper as Dylan Subacz pummeled the Dragons net with three bullseyes only to be denied by David Matos and his zoned-in goal keeping. With the crowd on their feet, the Dragons held on for “Gold” with a 5-4 victory as the Wizards captured “Silver” to wrap up another thrill packed season.
