Getting underway, the JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division Indoor Soccer launched into its 2016 campaign with the Rockets taking on the Comets. The Comets took a 1-0 lead as Alejandro Cifuentes assisted Harsh Easwar on an off speed strike. Roaring back, the Rockets built a 3-1 advantage as Thomas Arias (2 goals, 1 assist) and Kyle O’Hara (1 goal, 2 assists) lit up the scoreboard. Down by 2 goals, the Comets closed the gap to 3-2 as Easwar once again hit his mark with Dylan Subacz notching the assist. After throwing a scare into the Rockets’ defensive ranks with three near misses by Aaliyana Cifuentes, the Comets fell prey to a Rockets’ fast break as Nicholas DePinto zipped a full court pass to Thomas Arias who blasted in his third goal of the bout. Trailing 4-2, the Comets kept plugging away as Dylan Subacz’s net jet cut the Rockets’ lead to 4-3. With the Comets hot on their heels, the Rockets finally put the game into the win column as a defensive stop by Emya Irwin helped set up Kyle O’Hara’s game clinching shot as the Rockets prevailed 5-3.
