Elevator repair person dies in falls down shaft of Galaxy Towers

GUTTENBERG – An elevator repair person fell down an elevator shaft to his death in tower two of the Galaxy Towers Condominium on Boulevard East, according to news reports. The worker’s name has not yet been released.
NBC is reporting that the man was working on the roof when he fell 45 stories down the shaft. His body was wedged between an elevator cab and the wall of the shaft near the eighth floor.
The worker was employed by Slade Elevator, who released a statement saying they mourned the loss of their employee and offering condolences to the worker’s loved ones, reported 1010 WINS.
The incident happened about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Residents of tower two said a message was broadcast over the fire alarm system at about 7:45 a.m. advising that the elevators were shut down. They were told that there was no fire but a serious injury had taken place. All elevators in the building remained shut down for the remainder of the morning.
