HOBOKEN – Plows of all sizes were out in full force after over two feet of snow coated the mile square city in record-breaking numbers over the weekend.
The blizzard was anything but quiet. Hoboken was buried under as much as 26 inches, a baby was delivered at a woman’s home, and a Hoboken couple tied the knot despite the travel ban.
Although some residents complained that a number of bus stops in the city needed plowing as late as Monday, the city made an announcement Thursday morning that alternate side parking/street cleaning regulation will resume on Monday, Feb. 1 so crews could remove snow from parking lanes, bus stops and corners.
“Currently, snow removal operations are prioritized along snow emergency routes,” the city said in the announcement.
Additional crews are also clearing snow from around schools, which were closed Monday and Tuesday.
Snow removal has currently been completed and parking is permitted on the following snow emergency routes: Washington Street from Observer Highway to 15th Street, 4th Street from Washington Street to Clinton Street ONLY (parking is prohibited west of Clinton Street and east of Washington Street) and Willow Avenue from 9th Street to 11th Street ONLY (parking is prohibited south of 9th Street).
“Parking remains prohibited on all other snow emergency route segments until snow removal is complete,” the announcement continued. “While snow remains against the curb, vehicles parked on these street segments will narrow the roadway and prevent or delay the passage of emergency vehicles. Vehicles parked on un-cleared snow routes remain subject to ticketing and towing.”
