Cifuentes sizzles as Colts stay hot

It’s the JCC of Bayonne’s Jr. Division flag football “Championship Tournament” and the stands are packed with parents, siblings, and fans including teachers like Mrs. White from Washington School and Jonathan Sklarski who came up from Texas to cheer on his nephew Jack and his Jets’ teammates. Starting off in a blaze, the Jets hit paydirt first as Jack Kruchkowski hauled in a TD pass while Chase Cohen snared in a two point toss. Down, 8-0, the Colts fired back as AaliyanaCifuentes notched a 40 yard catch and a two point grab to tie the bout at 8-8. Coming into the game at (2-10), the Jets showed no signs of being anything less than a championship team as they took a 16-8 advantage with a 10 yard catch by Chase Cohen and a two point catch by Kruchkowski. Returning to their little scoring machine, the Colts handed the ball off to Aaliyana “Starfire” Cifuentes who cashed in on a 40 yard TD while Brenden “Catchem’ All” McCall tacked on a two point snare made it 16 all. Trading punches, the Colts and the Jets battled to a 24-24 halftime score as the Jets’ defense tacked on a 2 point safety and a Cohen TD catch while the Colts kept pace with a McCall TD reception and a Cifuentes two pointer. Locked in a duel, the Jets startedto pull away as Chase Cohen tallied 2 TD’s while Anthony Baez and Kruchkowski lifted the Jets out to a 40-24 lead with their two point catches. Storming back, the Colts bulled their way to a 48-40 lead as David Matos (1 TD), Brenden McCall (1 TD), AaliyanaCifuentes (4 expts), and the Colts’ defensive (2 pt safety) made it 48-40. Getting back on track, the Jets unleashed their speedster Anthony Baez who raced in for a TD while Kruchkowski knotted the brawl at 48 all with a two point grab. Heading down to the wire both squads could sense victory but after the Colts grabbed a 64-48 advantage with TD’s by Cifuentes, Matos and extra points by McCall and Cifuentes the Jets fell just short as a game ending TD catch by Kruchkowski let the Colts move on to the championship round with a hard fought 64-54 win.
