A Liturgy of Christian Burial was offered Nov. 28 at Saint Ann R.C. Church, Parsippany, for Mario Businelli, 90. He passed away peacefully on Nov. 26 at Care One at Morris in Parsippany. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday in the company of family and friends.
Mario was born in the village of Cornega, a municipality of Lumarzo, in the province of Genoa, Italy where he met and married his wife, Helen Gardella, in 1949. She died in 1993, and Mario joined her on the date of their 66th wedding anniversary.
Immigrating to the United States in 1950, Mario lived in New York City before moving to Weehawken in 1970. He briefly worked in a liquor store, joined the Teamsters and worked for Sofia Moving Company for several years, then joined Local 32BJ and was employed as a building superintendant before retiring in 1988.
Following retirement, Mario and his wife enjoyed traveling, returning to Italy several times, and even venturing cross-country by bus. During his later years, Mario enjoyed cooking and sitting on his front stoop in Weehawken chatting with friends and neighbors.
Mario was predeceased by his parents, Emilio and Colomba (Ferruggiaro), and by his sisters, Luisa and Angela. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Carlo and Tessie Businelli of Parsippany, and by his granddaughters, Nicole and Stephanie Businelli. Services were arranged by the Par-Troy Funeral Home, Parsippany.
