Miceli, Radil “Picks” Propel Eagles

Sitting at (2-0) atop the JCC of Bayonne Indoor Flag Football Sr. Division, the Eagles kicked off their week three doubleheader by taking on the (1-2) Chargers. Locked in a scoreless duel, the Chargers’ Ryan Ballance came up with the game’s first big play as he pilfered an Eagles’ pass at half court. The game’s next big pay occurred when the Eagles’ Matt Miceli returned the favor by intercepting a Chargers’ pass and dashing 30 yards for a “pick six”. The Eagles then made it 8-0 with a two point toss to the fiery Jacob Kowal. After a solid defensive stand spearheaded by the Taylor brothers, Damon and Da’mien, The Eagles’ offense took flight again as Matt Miceli hauled in a TD pass and a two point dart to make it 16-0, Eagles. Set back on their heels, the Chargers finally got on track as Chris Ballance latched on to his first TD of the season to cut the Eagles’ lead to 16-6. With QB Matt Miceli now at the helm, the Eagles rang up a coast to coast TD as Miceli railed a 40 yard TD strike to Jacob Kowal. Kowal then added a two point share to stretch the Eagles’ advantage to 24-6. As dropped passes and missed opportunities mounted, the Chargers went to their running attack as Tristen Johnson raced 20 yards to paydirt followed by a Ryan Ballance two point grab to put his squad back in the hunt trailing 24-14. Needing a defensive stop the Chargers “D” answered as Harsh Easwar, Matt Piscopi, and Mike Piscopi swarmed the Eagles to force a three and out. Back in business, the Chargers’ offense cashed in as Ryan Ballance pulled in a TD bomb to narrow the Eagles’ lead to 24-20. Still struggling offensively, the Eagles’ defense turned the tide as Drew Radil returned an interception 30 yard for a score and a 30-20 Eagles’ lead. The Eagles finally put the bout in the win column on a Drew Radil TD rumble and a Matt Miceli two point catch as the Eagles moved to (3-0) with a 38-20 win.
