Playing much better football than their (1-4) record would indicate, the Chargers faced a tall task as they took on the (4-0) Eagles in a week 4 JCC of Bayonne Indoor Flag Football Sr. Division joust. Bogged down in a scoreless first quarter, the game’s first big moment occurred when the Chargers’ Harsh Easwar picked off an Eagles’ pass to set up his 20 yard TD catch followed by a Ryan Ballance two point sweep. Regrouping the Eagles knotted the game at 8-8 as Jacob Kowal reeled in a TD dart and Damon Taylor’s two point run. After a strong defensive stand, the Eagles took a 14-8 lead as Nicholas DePinto rumbled 25 yards to paydirt. Rolling up court, the Chargers were poised to tie the bout until a heads up defensive play by the Eagles’ Matt Miceli resulted in a key fumble recovery at half court. Taking advantage, the Eagles made it 22-8 as Jacob Kowal hauled in a TD and Damon Taylor tacked on a two point catch. Insearch of a sustained drive, the Chargers got a boost as QB Chris Ballance peppered strikes to Mike Piscopi, Harsh Easwar, and Matt Piscopi before zipping a TD strike to Ryan Ballance cutting the Eagles’ leas to 22-14. Taking the reins, QB Matt Miceli quickly made it 28-14 on a 30 yard TD lazer to Drew Radil. Feeling the pressure, the Chargers once again fell prey to the turnover “bug” as Damon Taylor corralled another interception to set the Eagles’ offense up at the Charges’ 10 yard line. One play later, the Eagles cashed in with another Kowal TD and two point catch. Down 36-14, the Chargers tempted fate once more only to have the Eagles’ Matt Miceli snatched his 2nd “pick” to set up another Kowal TD grab as the Eagles racked up a 42-14 victory. A special mention must be given to the eagles’ Da’mien Taylor for his outstanding offensive effort.
