Two reportedly killed on Route 440 Monday night
Two men were struck and killed in the middle of Route 440 in Bayonne on Monday night, Nov. 2, WABC-TV in New York reported on Tuesday morning.
The two pedestrians, both Bayonne residents, were crossing the roadway when they were hit at about 11:15 p.m., according to the station.
The driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.
Route 440 was closed for a period for the investigation, but was reopened for the morning commute.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police seeking public’s help with shooting info
The Bayonne Police Department is seeking the public’s help with information about a shooting that occurred on Friday, Oct. 30 in the vicinity of West 17th Street and Kennedy Boulevard.
According to a statement from police, officers responded to a call of shots fired at 7:26 p.m., and upon arrival at the corner of Andrew Street and the Boulevard discovered a 34-year-old city resident with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was conscious and alert, and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he underwent treatment for non-life threatening injuries, according to a statement from Police Chief Drew Niekrasz.
“The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was pursued west on 17th Street between Avenue C and Kennedy Boulevard after being [allegedly] fired upon by a yet-to-be-identified male, who immediately fled the scene on foot,” Niekrasz said.
There has been no arrest, and the investigation is continuing.

Firefighter injured during Friday night blaze
The Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to 128 Kennedy Blvd. for a reported structure fire on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. and firefighters encountered heavy fire at the rear of the building.
“Firefighters advanced multiple fire hoses and extinguished the fire in the interior and exterior rear of the single-story building that is used as a daycare center known as ‘A Child’s World,’” said Fire Chief Gregory Rogers.
The business was reportedly closed and unoccupied when firefighters arrived.
One firefighter suffered an ankle injury while fighting the fire, was transported to Bayonne Medical Center, and was released, according to Rogers.
The fire was declared under control shortly after 7 p.m.
The building and its business portion suffered substantial fire and smoke damage, Rogers said.
The department investigator’s preliminary report indicated that the fire originated in a room at the rear of the structure.
Bayonne Medical Center receives radiology designation

‘Wizard’s Garden’ & other dances on Sunday
An afternoon of storytelling dances for all ages will be performed by Nimbus Dance Works’ professional dancers in the company’s intimate studio theater, 209 3rd St., Jersey City, on Sunday, Nov. 8, with performances at 1 and 4 p.m.
Following the performances, audience members can meet the performers for photos on the red carpet and share light refreshments.
The program includes “Honor Among Thieves” and “Wizard’s Garden” by Madeline Cantor and “Danzon” by Pedro Ruiz. Each performance lasts approximately 50 minutes.
