Jersey City Public Schools must reflect the diversity of our world and of our city

Dear Editor:
Jersey City is the second most diverse city in the country and it is time for Jersey City Public Schools to embrace that cultural vibrancy as a national leader with respect to inclusion. As Muslim parents, we believe that all backgrounds, cultures and religious beliefs deserve a voice within our school community.
Diversity and inclusion create a wholly-educated student and build the foundation for confident, compassionate pupils who learn to be open to engaging other cultures, religions, ethnic groups and races. Jersey City Public Schools must reflect the diversity of our world and of our city to ensure that our schools are a safe and welcoming environment.
Our classrooms are as diverse as our city, and our youngsters grow up embracing their peers. Our school system should reinforce that diversity as this is not only the right thing to do, but it augments the learning environment.
Board of Education candidates Reichart (1D), Gangadin (3D) and Roman (4D) understand this and that is why on November 3rd, we’ll be supporting them in the race for School Board. We encourage all residents who embrace diversity and inclusion to support this team in this important election.

Sincerely,
Imtiaz Syed
