Two hundred people attend city health fair
About 125 people received health care screenings during the city of Bayonne’s health fair on Thursday, Oct. 15 in Fitzpatrick Park, across from City Hall.
“We had approximately 200 people walk through, which is wonderful for a midday venue during the work and school week,” said Suzanne Cavanaugh, RN, city nurse.
The 30 groups participating included healthcare-related organizations, public agencies, and nonprofit services.
Multiple early detection screenings were performed, including those for breast cancer, blood pressure, and diabetic blood glucose. Free massages, pain management, and physical therapy services were also provided.
Information was given out on vaccines, physical fitness, teen and youth groups, disposing of old medications, child protection and foster care, and adult care and aging.
Royal Knights tailgate event to be held this Friday
Marist High School will host a Royal Knights Football Tailgate event on Friday, Oct. 23, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Stadium as part of the school’s homecoming festivities.
The tailgate party will precede the Marist vs. St. Anthony’s High School football game, which begins at 7 p.m.
The tailgate is open to students, parents, faculty, alumni, and the public. Tickets are $10 for adults/alumni and $5 for high school students who have a valid high school ID.
The ticket price covers entrance to the tailgate and football game, as well as the food and drink that will be provided at the tailgate.
Tickets must be reserved in advance by going to marist.org/homecoming. Once reserved, individuals will be able to pay for and pick up their tickets at the tailgate entrance.

Free movie night at the museum slated for Nov. 6
The Bayonne Theater Company will sponsor “Movie Night at the Museum” on Friday, Nov. 6,
at 7 p.m. at the Bayonne Community Museum, 229 Broadway, the corner of 9th Street.
“The Bayonne Theater Company welcomes one and all to attend a free movie night at the museum,” said spokesman Adam Semanchick.
November’s movie will be the family friendly comedy “Shrek.”
Concessions and other items will be available for purchase through onsite vendors.

PSE&G warns customers about phone payment scams
Public Service Electric and Gas Company is urging its customers to be alert for a scam that is increasingly targeting small businesses.
Through the ruse, individuals misrepresenting themselves as PSE&G employees threaten to turn off electric and gas service if payment is not made that day with a pre-paid card.
If doubtful about a caller, or if you are suspicious of a call in any way, PSE&G urges customers to call the number listed on their bill: (800) 436-7734.
“This is an old scam with a new twist,” said Greg Dunlap, PSE&G vice president of customer operations. “Now some scammers are imitating PSE&G’s interactive voice response system prompt menu, so when customers call them back, they hear something similar to what they would experience if they called PSE&G’s customer service line.”
PSE&G is working with law enforcement to investigate the matter and is also reaching out to its contacts at local community service agencies and asking them to spread the word to their clients. Small business customers who have provided their email addresses are being alerted to the scam.
