Free community health screenings announced

Throughout the year, Palisades Medical Center’s staff takes an active role in local communities to provide free health screenings and education programs. The New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) recognized Palisades Medical Center’s Community Outreach Program with its Community Outreach Award for its unique and effective methods of reaching out to better serve the healthcare needs of area residents. The following is a schedule of Palisades Medical Center’s free health screenings that will be held in local communities in the coming months. Oct. 4
St. Mary’s Church, 254 2nd St., Jersey City, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free screenings for: blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of oxygen in the blood, peak flow/respiratory, Body Mass Index – BMI, HgbA1c blood test for diabetes. Certificates for mammography, prostate screening, and HIV testing.

Oct. 11
St. Rocco’s Church, 4317 Bergen Turnpike, North Bergen, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Free screenings for: blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of oxygen in the blood, peak flow/respiratory, Body Mass Index – BMI, HgbA1c blood test for diabetes. Certificates for mammography, prostate screening, HIV testing, and SNAP-ED program.

Oct. 24
St. Joseph’s of the Palisades, 6401 Palisades Ave., West New York,11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free screenings for: blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of oxygen in the blood, peak flow/respiratory, Body Mass Index – BMI, HgbA1c blood test for diabetes, eye exams for vision and glaucoma, SNAP-ED program, diet information and demo. Information on Trafficking of Women and Children, breast exams with certificates for referral for mammography. Blood test for lead levels.

Nov. 1
St. Joseph/St. Michael’s Church, 1314 Central Ave., Union City, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free screenings for: blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of oxygen in the blood, peak flow/respiratory, Body Mass Index – BMI. HgbA1c blood test for diabetes, certificates for mammography, prostate screening, and HIV testing. Blood test for lead levels, lead testing and charity care registration.

Nov. 8
St. Anthony’s Church, 615 8th St., Union City, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Free screenings for: blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of oxygen in the blood, peak flow/respiratory, Body Mass Index – BMI, HgbA1c blood test for diabetes. Certificates for mammography, prostate screening, HIV testing, and blood tests for lead levels, and charity care registration.

Dec. 12
Nazareth Baptist Church, 5800 Palisades Ave., West New York, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free screenings and information on: blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of oxygen in the blood, peak flow/respiratory, Body Mass Index – BMI, HgbA1c blood test for diabetes, certificates for mammography, prostate screening, and HIV testing for those who are eligible. charity care registration.
