Division of Recreation Special Needs Soccer Academy

Mayor Jimmy Davis has announced the Division of Recreation will start a Special Needs Soccer Academy.
The Special Needs Soccer Academy, open to Bayonne residents, boys and girls, ages 3-21, is a program for mentally and physically challenged youth and will provide individualized attention to develop skills and fitness, and emphasize the fun aspects of soccer and sports.
The program, which meets on Saturdays, is designed to provide an enjoyable time for children with a range of skill levels. Players will be separated by age during all sessions.
A unique feature of the program is its use of athletes from the Bayonne High School Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity and JV Soccer teams. BHS players will be on hand to help assist the players in the academy. Youth soccer coaches will also be part of the program to assist.
The Special Needs Soccer Academy will begin October 3 and will run for 5 weeks. The Academy will take place on the new field at Veteran’s Stadium.
During the Academy, all players and families will also have the opportunity to attend a St. Peter’s University Women’s Soccer game. Players will have the chance to go on the field and practice with the women’s players before their game.
The Academy will conclude on Halloween, where players will get to wear their Halloween costumes for a fun-filled soccer game.
Registration forms are available in the Division of Recreation office, located in City Hall, Room #13, 630 Avenue C, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For information, contact Pete Amadeo at (201) 858-6129 or email bayonnerec@aol.com.
