GUTTENBERG – The open public portion of the Guttenberg Council Meeting was considerably more spirited than usual on Monday, Aug. 24. About a half dozen residents got up to vehemently protest last month’s passing of an ordinance to initiate metered parking along John F. Kennedy Boulevard East. Some residents asked that the town make an exception for residents, allowing them to park without paying the meters. Others expressed that they felt residents were being “penalized” for the success of Rumba Cubana, a popular restaurant located at the corner of 69th Street and the Boulevard, across from the Galaxy Towers.
Adopted at the meeting was an ordinance to amend the parking time limits at all meters in town, including any to be installed on Boulevard East. Meters will now be active from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Residents with parking stickers are exempt from having to feed the meters from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
