Seniors tour historic sites

On Aug. 7, approximately 35 Weehawken seniors were taken by bus to Harlem in New York City to see and explore three different historic sites.
Hamilton Grange was the country house of Alexander Hamilton, an original founding father who was America’s first Secretary of the Treasury and the founder of the nation’s financial system. He also has a notorious connection to Weehawken, having been killed in a duel there in July 1804 by his political rival, Aaron Burr.
Grant’s Tomb is where Ulysses S. Grant, 18th president of the United States, and his wife Julia rest in red granite coffins in an open crypt.
Both these sites are run by the National Park Service
The third stop was the Hispanic Society of America Museum, which contains Spanish paintings and objects of art from the Middle Ages up to the early 20th century. This museum is located on Broadway between 155th and 156th streets.
The tour guide was Carol Kravitz, and the excursion was sponsored by Mayor Richard Turner and the Township Council.
