National History Day success

To the Editor:

It has been said that if you build it, they will come and come they did as more than 50 students from throughout the Bayonne School district braved the dog days of summer to participate in the National History Day Summer Boost Program. Our Summer Boost Program provided interested students with an opportunity to jumpstart their research for National History Day, the rigorous academic contest that attracts more than 500,000 competitors each year. As teacher Evan Wexler noted, “For these children to give up a portion of their summer to participate in a research seminar really shows how conscientious they are. It also shows how children want to learn and will go above and beyond if given the right opportunity.” I would like to commend the students for participating in this program. Their commitment to academic excellence is truly remarkable but opportunities such as this cannot happen without the support of our Central Office Administration, the Board of Education and the Bayonne Education Foundation. I would like to thank our leaders for having the vision to support this wonderful program and for knowing that if you build it, they will come.
