Build, build, build

To the Editor:

“Promenade development will give life to a whole new neighborhood in Bayonne, creating a city within a city.”
Tell me, who writes this propaganda? Do they really think they’re fooling the citizens of Bayonne? Build uptown, build midtown, build downtown. Empty lot- let’s build.
If they can’t build, let’s knock down a few buildings and then build. This is Agenda 21 alive and well in Bayonne.
What citizens were included in all this planning? Probably none. But this construction will affect our lives, quality of life, and property. This promenade will take years, meaning more trucks running through town, more noise, more disturbances.
Think Bayonne Bridge and that fiasco. Forget it Bayonne. We’re going to have a great promenade. We don’t care about your quality of life. Just pay your taxes and be quiet.
Do we need more people in Bayonne? No we don’t. We have enough traffic and congestion. Between the bridge and the turnpike at times it becomes a nightmare. Talk to anyone who lives here or ring their doorbell and they’ll tell you exactly how they feel.
Bayonne is a mess and they don’t like it. Of course the only time a politician rings your bell it’s because he wants your vote.
A wife of a councilman told me that you don’t get taxes from trees or shrubs. OK, just build these high rises and fill up this town. That’s the answer. Don’t forget to build another school.
What really should happen is: the city should earnestly collect all the taxes that are legitimately due them. Then cut down on waste, padded payrolls, contracts to cronies, and deals that don’t produce the results intended. But before this can happen we’d have to clean house in City Hall. What a fairy tale.
For those who don’t know what “Agenda 21” is, Google “Agenda 21” sustainable development. It’s happening all over the country and we’re right in the middle of it.
