Riverview-Fisk Park stepped back in time on June 7, concluding a weeklong jazz festival with a Dixieland picnic.
Concertgoers dressed up in costumes that ranged from early Victorian to the flapper era of the Roaring 1920s.
Brooklyn-based band The Gotham Easy played a variety of classic ragtime tunes that resonated with the crowd, many of whom had come to take part in the local farmers market.
Riverview Jazz.Org, founded in 2013, is committed to bringing the highest quality of jazz to the Jersey City/Hudson County community, while putting a strong emphasis on education through music.
With a backdrop of the New York skyline and the rooftops of Hoboken, the jazz festival has become a popular event each June.
Hoping to expand
RJO has been working closely with various community organizations and private businesses to promote and book events throughout the area.
Although the June 7 event concluded the festival, the Music in the Park program is expected to continue at the Riverview Farmers Market every first Sunday of the month through Nov. 1.
In addition, local favorite DJ Pastiche will appear every third Sunday of the month.
Music in the Park is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of the State, a partner agent of the National Endowment for the Arts administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, Thomas A. DeGise County Executive, and the Board of Freeholders.
