NORTH BERGEN – Vimala Priya Darshini Ravi, a senior and member of the National Honor Society (NHS) at North Bergen High School has been named one of 200 state finalists in the National Honor Society Scholarship from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). These 200 NHS state finalists were chosen from among nearly 6,800 applicants. Each finalist receives a $1,000 college scholarship.
“We are all extremely proud of Vimala, she truly is a great example of the quality of our students,” said Mayor Nicholas Sacco. “All throughout her time at North Bergen High School she has demonstrated her outstanding academic capabilities as well as being a very well rounded individual in and outside the classroom. It is very pleasing to see her efforts being recognized.”
Participating National Honor Society Chapters from across the country nominated at least two senior high members to compete in this year’s program. Finalists were selected on the basis of their leadership skills, participation in service organizations, clubs, and other student groups at school and in the community, and their academic record. As a finalist, Darshini was recognized as one of the top 200 NHS members in the nation this school year.
“We are proud to recognize Vimala for her outstanding achievements and contributions to her school,” said Ann Postlewaite, NASSP student programs director. “Students nominated for the NHS Scholarship not only demonstrate academic excellence, but also extraordinary performance in service, leadership and character.”
While at North Bergen High School, Darshini has been National Honors Society vice president, Key Club president, a member of the varsity tennis team, and involved in several service projects. This fall she plans to attend the New Jersey Institute of Technology to study science.
