BLASCZAK, RAYMOND V. SR.

Funeral services took place May 26 for Raymond V. Blasczak, Sr., 89, of Brick Township, formerly of Jersey City. He passed away May 19. Born in Brooklyn, Raymond’s family moved to Jersey City. He graduated from Snyder High School and enlisted in the United States Navy serving in Patrol Bombing Squadron 123 in the Pacific theater. During his enlistment he received the American Theater Medal, Asianic -Pacific Theater Medal (2 Stars), Air Medal (1 Gold Star) and Combat Air Medal + Insignia (3 Stars.)
In 1947, Raymond joined the Jersey City Police Department as a patrolman. During his 44 year career he held the ranks of detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, inspector, and retired in 1991 as deputy chief. Throughout his career his assignments included every precinct, section, bureau and department within the jurisdiction of the Jersey City Police Department.
Raymond was a graduate of the Jersey City Police Academy, the New Jersey State Police Academy and the FBI National Academy. He was a Past Grand Knight and Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus, Greenville Council, Charter Member of the Jersey City Police Superior Officers Association, Lifetime Member of the JCPD Police Benevolent Association State Police Benevolent Association State Police Honor Legion and New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police. He was past president of the New Jersey Chapter of the FBI and Past President of the FBI National Association. Raymond is survived by his wife of 68 years, Geraldine (Nee Edwards); daughter Geraldine and husband Joseph Marshall, grand children Dini Marshall, Joseph Marshall and great grandson Bryce Marshall, sons; Raymond V., Jr. and wife Josephine Blasczak, grandson Raymond V. III, Thomas J., grandson Thomas, Richard, J. and was predeceased by son James M.Blasczak. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
