Batter’s Box

QUESTION: In high school, are the dimensions for the batter’s box exactly the same for baseball and softball?
ANSWER: No; (BB) the entire box is 6 ft. in length; three ft. up and three ft. back and four ft. wide. ( Rule 1, Diagram 2). (SB) the entire box is 7 ft. long; four ft. up and three ft. back while three ft. across. ( Rule 2, Sec. 6; Figure 1-2.

QUESTION: Batter swings and with front foot entirely out of batter’s box touching the ground contacts a pitch which is hit foul. Is this a violation or just a strike?
ANSWER: Dead ball; batter is declared out in above play whether ball was hit foul or fair. (BB- Rule 7, Sec. 3, Art. 2) (SB- Rule 7, Sec. 4, Art. 8).
