HUDSON COUNTY — This weekend’s heat wasn’t enjoyable for families in Jersey City and West New York who were displaced by fires in those towns.
In West New York, 38 families or 121 people had to leave a 51st Street apartment building after a five-alarm fire Friday night.
NJ.com reported that the fire started in a fifth floor bedroom. West New York Police Sgt. Denny Acosta noticed thick smoke and evacuated the building with a fellow officer.
In Jersey City, a man and his wife were displaced Sunday morning from a two-alarm fire in a high-rise building in downtown Jersey City at 280 Marin Blvd. One firefighter, Jeremiah S. Healy, son of the former mayor, was sent to Jersey City Medical Center with minor injuries.
