The JCC of Bayonne’s Jr. Division Floor Hockey League got out to a spectacular start as the Bruins and Blackhawks faced off in their season opener. Storming the net to take a quick 3-0 lead, the Blackhawks looked unstoppable as Sebastian Valles notched a “hat trick” while Toni “The Tiger” Rivada (2) and Dylan Subacz (1) picked up assists. After a few words of wisdom from coach Andy Winters, the refocused Bruins went on the attack as Michael “Stonewall” McCollum plowed in three net jets to knot the game at 3-3. Helping to fuel the Bruins’ rebound were key assists by Roman Popowski (1) and Andres Giron (2) while Kailey Delauter settled in at net. Not content with the deadlock, the Bruins took a 4-3 lead as Roman Popowski scored off an assist by “Stonewall” McCollum. After a stellar start at net, the Blackhawks’ Edward Denne set his sights on regaining his early game swagger. With Denne refueled, the Blackhawks’ offense took flight again as Dylan Subacz tied the game at 4 all on a power play goal. The final ten minutes became a showcase for the Blackhawks’ team captain Sebastian Valles as Valles torched the net for three more goals to spearhead the “Hawks” 7-4 victory.
