Teixeira, Subacz star in Rockets O.T. win

Closing out their regular season, the (3-3) Sonics first faced the (3-4) Rockets in the opening bout of their JCC of Bayonne Indoor Soccer Sr. Division double header. Getting out to a 2-0 lead off goals by Allen “ Lefty” McComb and James Bajor, the Sonics’ offense controlled the pace early on. Helping to key, the Sonics quick start were sweepers Mackenzie Woods, T.J. Wolf, and Robert Ochoa who also picked up two assists. Switching gears and using their sharp shooters in surges, the Rockets battled back to tie the game at 2 all on goals by Kevin Aguilar and Chloe Gregory with Harsh Easwar on the assists. The last five minutes of regulation played to a stalemate as the Rockets’ Natallyah Teixeira launched every save back into “no mans land” to stifle Alejandro Cifuentes and Alejandro Vargas as the Sonics” speedy duo tried to lead the attack for the game winner. Deadlocked at 2-2, both squads blasted away from the penalty line but it was the Rockets’ Jaden Subacz who had the magic touch as he railed in the game winning shot for a 3-2 Rockets’ overtime victory.
