Punjani propells Comets to “Gold”

Once the “king of the hill” at (4-1), the now (4-4) Comets hoped to regain their swagger as they took on the (5-4) Rockets in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer Sr. Division “Gold Medal” round. After a cautious start, the Comets got on track as Jacob Kowal assisted Shashwat Punjani on the game’s first goal. Down 1-0, the Rockets fired back with two goals by Kevin Aguilar as Jaden Subacz notched a pair of assists. Suddenly trailing 2-1, the Comets’ offense kicked into high gear as Anushka Chakrabarti and Emya Irwin each assisted Shashwat Punjani on two more net gems to take a 3-2 lead. The next fifteen minutes stayed scoreless as the Rockets loaded up on defense with Chloe Gregory, Harsh Easwar and Natallyah Teixeira suring up the ranks while the “Radilators” Drew and Jared Radil, joined forces with Kasper Hooks to repel shots for the Comets’ squad. The game’s turning point came when Drew Radil launched a net to net bomb that somehow “ping ponged” into the goal to give the Comets a 4-2 advantage. Still in striking range, the Rockets had their hopes dashed as Shashwat Punjani made it 5-2 with his 16th goal of the season. Inspite of a spirited final ten minutes, the Rockets couldn’t muster another comeback as the Comets clinched “gold” with a 5-2 victory.
