Worker injured during Bayonne Bridge construction

BAYONNE – A 44-year-old Staten Island man sustained an injury to his left leg while working on the Bayonne Bridge on Wednesday, April 1, a Port Authority of New York & New Jersey spokesman said.
The Port Authority Police Department and emergency medical services personnel responded to the bridge at 12:30 p.m., according to Joseph Pentangelo of the Port Authority.
The electrical company employee was transported to Richmond University Hospital in Staten Island, Pentangelo said.
The work was part of the $1.3 billion “Raise the Roadway” project, which will raise the navigational clearance of the span to 215 feet to allow larger ships to pass underneath.
