AVILES, VICTOR MODESTO

Private funeral services have been held for Victor Modesto Aviles, 86. He died at home on March 10. He was originally from Aibonito, Puerto Rico and was one of ten children born to Modesto and Maria Aviles. Victor moved to Jersey City at the age of 19. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He retired from Verdi Luggage (formerly M&M Luggage) in downtown Jersey City after 25 years of service. He eventually settled on Magnolia Ave and lived there for 45 years until his health deteriorated and then went to live with his daughter.
He was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church. Victor was an avid golfer for over 40 years and loved working in his garden where he could often be seen trimming the hedges. But most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was the father of two daughters, Jeanette and Nancy. He is survived by his grandson, Jose III, and son-in-law Jose Jr. He is also survived by his sisters Connie, Aida, Gloria, Norma and Helga (and husband Teodoro), brothers Josian, Carlos (and wife Martha) and sisters-in-law Amelia and Maria. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews–especially, Freddie and his wife Sandra, Hilda, Jorge, Rafael and Bob. Till the end, he always spoke fondly of his golfing buddy Jackie Blue and his wife Maureen. He was predeceased by his brothers Rafael and Domingo, sister-in-law Ada, brothers-in-law Rafael and Reuben, grand-nephew Michael, ex-wife Elsie and longtime companion, Wanda Strzepek. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
