Nine residents displaced by Bayonne blaze

BAYONNE – Nine tenants have been displaced by a two-alarm fire on Avenue A.
The Bayonne Fire Department responded to the blaze in a three-story frame house at 696 Ave. A at about 7 p.m. on March 15.
“Arriving firefighters were confronted with a fire in a kitchen on the first floor, and fire traveling an interior wall to the second and third floors,” said Fire Chief Gregory Rogers. “Firefighters advanced fire hoses to all three floors and were able to quickly extinguish the fire.”
The first and second floors suffered the most fire damage. All three floors sustained smoke and water damage as well.
There were no reported injuries.
The fire investigator determined that the fire originated in the first-floor kitchen. The fire was deemed accidental, the result of unattended cooking on the range top.
