To the Editor:
Menendez has had his fair share of scandals during his time in Washington D.C., and to be honest, it should never have happened. When we elect representatives, we give them a great deal of trust. The fact that the Department of Justice is currently looking into corruption charges against U.S. Senator Menendez’s is an embarrassment for New Jersey.
It’s a sad event because this investigation adds to the stereotype of New Jersey being a corrupt state where politicians run free to do as they wish. The Department of Justice is doing the right thing in following through with the investigation. If Senator Menendez has nothing to hide, then he should allow the DOJ to conduct their investigation in peace. If Menendez is found to have done something illegal, then by all means the proper authorities should continue with the next step in stopping this corruption from ever happening again.
This should serve as a lesson to all of our elected officials. It doesn’t matter how long you have been in office or how high you are up the political chain. Holding public office is a major responsibility. Not only are you dealing with the lives of many people in your district, you are also a representative image of your state, city, or representative district.
Corruption, no matter the form or person, should not be tolerated in the slightest bit. We need to stand up to politicians who seek to ultimately receive personal gain. Next time you go to the polls, set party aside and vote for the person who has shown integrity. Only when we finally rid politicians from office, can we start electing representatives.
