Globally-televised boxing match will be held in Jersey City

On Saturday, March 14, LGM Promotion, along with Global Boxing will hold the first ever televised championship night of boxing in the history of the Jersey City Armory at 679 Montgomery St. Hudson County has long been home to some of the world’s best boxers and is continuing in that tradition. The evening’s main event, a WBU Featherweight America title bout features military veteran/ American hero John Franklin.
The under card includes a WBU Youth World Title bout featuring bantamweight sensation, Steve Quinn Jr. This is Steve’s first fight in the United States directly from Ireland.
Promotions also has featured on this night’s card numerous bouts featuring some of the area’s best local talent that are represented by Roc-Nation. “The promoters will also be donating tickets for this event to children from local community groups and local charitable organizations.

Two CarePoint hospitals named in top 20 in the state

Inside Jersey and Castle Connelly Group this week named two CarePoint Health Hospitals among the top twenty in the state of New Jersey.
CarePoint Health Bayonne Medical Center was named number three overall in the state among hospitals with fewer than 350 beds and CarePoint Hoboken University Medical Center was named number fourteen. Castle Connolly asked licensed physicians across the state to name the top hospitals for various medical conditions, as well as for overall care.

Record sale of mixed-used property in Journal Square

CBRE Group, Inc. announced that it has arranged the sale of 2866 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City for approximately $1.2 million. The three-story mixed-use building is fully occupied, with Subway residing in its ground floor retail space and occupied multifamily apartments comprising the second and third floors. The 4,200-square-foot property is located in the heart of Journal Square, one of the most active markets in the Tri-State area.
CBRE’s Tri-State Investment Properties team of Charles Berger and Mark Silverman of New Jersey Investment Properties and Elli Klapper of New York Investment Properties represented the seller in the transaction. The CBRE team was able to secure record pricing in terms of price-per-unit, in-place cap rate and price per sq. ft. The transaction offers an excellent upside for the income buyer upon the expiration of current below-market leases.

Free business seminar available on April 8

Hudson County Executive Thomas A. DeGise has announced that the Hudson County Office of Minority and Women Business Enterprise (OMWBE), in partnership with Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Center for Business & Industry, and the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce, will present a free seminar entitled, “Access to Capital: New and Emerging Funding Sources.”
The event for businesses will be held on Wednesday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the HCCC Culinary Conference Center at 161 Newkirk St., two blocks from the Journal Square PATH Station in Jersey City.

An evening of poetry, prose and song will be March 20

Spring Bouquets, an evening of poetry, prose and song, will be held on March 20 to benefit the gardens at Pershing Field. Put on by Pershing Field Garden Friends, the event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 942 Summit Ave in Jersey City Heights.
A donation of $16 will include a cup of tea and a sweet or savory bite, while enjoying the spoken word and song of local writers and singers. All attendees will be entered into our special door prize drawing. Come out and enjoy an evening with neighbors and friends while contributing to a worthwhile cause!

Cycle against cancer on March 21

The second annual Cycle for Survival charity event will be held on March 21 from noon to 3 p.m. at 41 Tuers Ave. in Jersey City. This is an indoor team cycling event to raise funds that are critical for rare cancer research. All donations to Cycle for Survival are directly allocated to research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. For more information visit Cycleforsurvival.org

SDA dance team gets national recognition

The Saint Dominic Academy Dance Team finished 8th in the nation in Small Varsity Team Performance, in a recent championship. The team also took home the Technical Excellence award and also the NDA Unleashed 2015 Award.
The dance team won a several key events this season including a first place finish in Dance Team POM at the 11th Annual Sweetheart Invitational held at Pascack Valley High School on Feb. 8. On March 1, the team became New Jersey State Champions and took first place in both the Varsity Variety and Varsity POM competitions at the New Jersey Cheerleading and Dance State Championships. A week later, the team captured several awards at the National Dance Alliance National Championships, beginning with second place in International POM in Orlando.
