Bill that would allow retirees to receive pension while working being considered

HUDSON COUNTY – A bill that would allow newly retired police officers and firefighters to collect their pensions while serving in office in the municipality where they previously worked has been introduced by two North Hudson state legislators, according to an online story.
The bill was submitted by State Sens. Brian Stack and Nicholas Sacco, mayors in Union City and North Bergen, respectively, and was scheduled for a Senate committee hearing on March 12, according to nj.com.
The bill could affect the pension of Bayonne Mayor James Davis, a former police captain who retired the day before taking office last July 1, according to the story. If the proposal passes, Davis, who makes $72,000 a year as mayor, would also be able to begin collecting the pension on his retiring police salary. Nj.com reported that his salary was $175,441, according to 2013 salary information.
