HOBOKEN — Hoboken’s about to get its first new bookstore since Barnes & Noble closed four years ago — and on Tuesday they launched their indiegogo campaign to raise money to help open the hometown venture. The store will sell new and used books, host community events and classes, and just serve as a place for writers, readers, and local folks to gather. Click the link to learn more.
Hoboken already has a scrappy independent used bookstore at 510 Washington St., Symposia Books, that holds community events and activities for children. The new venture, Little City Books, will open on Bloomfield and First streets.
The store will debut May 2, Independent Bookstore Day. Kate Jacobs, a local singer/songwriter, is starting the venture with Donna Garban, a former investment banker at Goldman Sachs, and Stonesong literary agent Emmanuelle Morgen. Publisher’s Weekly noted last month, “…the store will have a large children’s section, including YA, which Morgen agents.”
The Indiegogo campaign offers prizes for those who donate, and the funds will help them open.
Jersey City has gotten some exciting independent bookstores in the last few years, and one is reportedly coming to West New York in the near future. So why not Hoboken?
