Popowski, Irwin surge Dragons to victory

Still searching for their first victory of the season, the (0-2) Dragons faced the (3-0) Knights in a JCC of Bayonne Jr. Division Indoor Soccer tussle. With there sights set on curing their early season offensive woes, the Dragons grabbed a 1-0 lead as Brenna Popowski assisted Roman Popowski on a scoring boot. Shaking off a slow start, the Knights bounced back as Dylan Subacz railed in his 15th goal of the season with Toni Rivada picking up her league leading 5th assist. Tied at one all, the Dragons regained the lead as Lilliana Cordero’s net jet made it 2-1. After assisting on Cordero’s goal, the Dragons’ Roman Popowski put his squad up 3-1 with a net jarring penalty kick. With their league leading offense boxed in, the Knights shuffled the deck on offense by sending Edward Denne, Joyce Gabrael, Aviv Talmor, and Amy Gabrael into the hunt for points. After a bushel of near misses, the Knights’ Nazar Kolesnyk slipped a pass to Dylan Subacz who made it 3-2 with his 16th goal of the season. With the Knights breathing down their necks, the Dragons fortified their defensive ranks with Michael Cordero, Runak Verma, and Vikram Balaguru the bolstering the sweeper position but the key move turned out to be Emya Irwin moving to goal. With less than one minute remaining, Irwin repelled five shots right on net including the game winning save as time ran out to give the Dragons a 3-2 victory.
