Naming names

To the Editor:

President Obama was elected by a vote across the country. The individuals in Congress are from a single district or state. Why are politicians, despite a 15-percent approval rating, able to deter policymaking?
Mayor Davis was elected by a vote across the city. The members of the Board of Education were never elected. Why do they make “curious” decisions on teacher contracts, repaying borrowed money, and hiring?
John Coleman (IMTT) is a strong contributor to local programs. In December, it was suggested to rename a street, a proclamation followed in January, and final approval came in February. Why was this done deservedly in some 90 days?
Bill Broderick devoted 20-plus years to the children of Bayonne. He was Teacher of The Year, one of the most victorious tennis coaches nationally, boys and girls were County Champions nearly every year, he initiated programs at the Jewish Community Center, and espoused summer clinics. Why have the mayor and the BOE overlooked these accomplishments?
I suggest naming the tennis courts at BHS before the start of the season (March 7) after Bill, who is a wonderful human being, educator, and coach.
