Origin of Presidents’ Day fire announced

BAYONNE – The origination of the four-alarm Presidents Day fire that displaced 14 people on West 34th Street has been announced by the Bayonne Fire Department.
“The fire investigator determined that the 34th Street fire originated in the rear basement of building number 12,” said Bayonne Fire Chief Gregory Rogers on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
The fire also extended to the adjacent building, 14 West 34th Street.
On Feb. 18, a city official confirmed that 12 West 34th Street had been razed because of the damage to it, including a partially collapsed roof.
No one was reported injured in the blaze.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, Rogers said.
