Right Angle Custom Framing presents ‘Living Hoboken,’ an exhibit of images by local photographer Joe Epstein, at their uptown location, 1108 Washington St., Hoboken.
The exhibit of photographs captures the special place that Hoboken is and why so many enjoy ‘Living Hoboken.’ The images captured in and around the Mile Square City display a unique view of its bustling urban landscape, with its mixture of new and old, one-of-a-kind architecture and beautiful historical landmarks.
Often we walk briskly through the city, without taking notice of the surroundings. Ordinary things appear unique depending on the lighting, the angle, and the weather conditions. Epstein captures it all from a unique perspective helping the viewer to appreciate the intricacies.
The artist
Epstein’s expertise includes architectural, commercial, editorial, fine art, and portrait photography. Focusing first in the field of photojournalism, he has been working as a professional photographer since 1985.
At The Star Ledger, the largest daily newspaper in New Jersey, Epstein has won several industry awards and in 2005 was a member of the staff that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News.
Epstein’s work has been published in newspapers, magazines, around the world, appearing in such publications as The Associated Press, Newsday, The Inquirer, Sports Illustrated, and the websites of USA Today, MSNBC, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.
Epstein has travelled globally, including rural villages of Ghana, game preserves of Kenya, remote regions of the Amazon rain forest in Brazil, the outback and Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and in the USA from Alaska to Florida and many places in between.
Capturing the image is only part of his process. The computer and memory card may have replaced the chemicals of the darkroom, but that does not change the post production process. Epstein edits each image, bringing to print what he viewed through the lens. Over the years he has refined his technique and trained his eye to see the world in a unique way, displaying a vision blended of light, motion, and viewpoint.
The photographs will be on display until March 29 at Right Angle Custom Framing’s uptown location every day from 12-8 p.m. For more information, call (201) 942-9220.
