Dear Editor:
The New Year started on a bright note. My staff and I have been busy over the past six weeks hosting a variety of events and planning new ones designed to help residents of all ages in the 33rd Legislative District. As we continue to move forward, I want to keep all residents informed of the different events we are offering.
Recently I sponsored a Free Rabies and Vaccine Clinic for Pets at the Hoboken Boys and Girls Club. Dozens of residents took advantage of this wonderful opportunity to treat and protect their pets. And because it was so successful, I plan to host additional clinics in the future.
In recognition of National Mentoring Month in January, I was honored to speak with the staff and students of “True Mentors” in Hoboken. Because of their commitment and service to help youth in our community, I was honored to acknowledge their service with proclamations from Senator Brian Stack and myself. This event featured another outstanding individual. Charlotte Samuels, one of the youngest champion swimmers in the country, shared her inspiring story of perseverance with the group. I also spoke with students at Hoboken Junior High School about government and the legislative process. I want to express my gratitude to Principal Piccapietra and Superintendent Brockel for arranging the assembly.
And there are more events on the horizon. All seniors are welcome to attend my free Valentine’s Day Bingo on Feb. 14 at the Elks in Hoboken at 4 p.m. Thank you to the many businesses supporting this event with donated prizes. In honor of Black History Month, Senator Ronald Rice and a host of community leaders will join me for the 16th annual Richard Hicks Black Youth Empowerment Luncheon that I will be sponsoring on Feb. 21 at the Elks. And soon I will be organizing a Chess Tournament for Hoboken students to sharpen their chess skills and critical thinking abilities.
Please visit www.carmelogarcia.com for more information on these and other events as well as legislative updates. It is an honor to serve as Assemblyman for the 33rd District!
Sincerely,
Carmelo G. Garcia
