Bayonne opening warming center during expected cold weekend

BAYONNE – The city has announced that it will open its warming center for the upcoming weekend, during which temperatures have been forecast to drop as low 0 degrees with a -20-degree or lower wind chill.
Mayor James Davis announced on Friday, Feb. 13 that Bayonne’s Community Center, 597 Broadway, will be open throughout the President’s Day holiday weekend as a warming center.
“We usually only stay open for a day or two,” Davis said. “[But] because the forecast is calling for bitter temperatures and extremely low wind chills for an extended period of time, we are staying open throughout the entire weekend.”
The warming center will be open from Friday, Feb. 13 at 9 p.m. through Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 8:30 a.m. At that point, regular Community Center activities will resume.
“Our Department of Municipal Services provides this necessary service for those in need of relief in these types of extreme circumstances,” Davis said of the opening.
