Subacz stars in Knights O.T. win

At (1-0), the Knights faced the Dragons in their second Jr. Division bout as they looked to move to (2-0) in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer League. Getting out to another quick start, the Knights built a 3-0 advantage off goals by Nazar Kolesnyk, Dylan Subacz, and Edward Denne with Amy Gabrael (2) and Denne (1) picking up assists. Brushing off a sluggish start, the Dragons made it 3-1 with Michael Cordero assisting Roman Popowski on a scoring dart. Returning to their leading scorer, the Knights made it 4-1 as Aviv Talmor assisted Dylan Subacz on his 10th goal in two games. With less than 10 minutes remaining, the Dragons battled back as Emya Irwin drilled in two goals with Lilliana Cordero and Michael Cordero on the assists. Still down by one at 4-3, the Dragons kept the heat on the Knights’ defense and at the 40-second mark, the Dragons’ Michael Cordero tied the bout at 4-4, all while Emya Irwin registered an assist. The final moments really heated up as the Knights blasted away with Amy Gabrael, Toni Rivada, and Joyce Gabrael taking their shots. But the Dragons’ Brenna Popowski weathered the storm at net to force an overtime shoot-out. With two red-hot goal tenders minding their nets, both the Knights and Dragons fell short with their first three scoring attempts until the Knights’ scoring machine, Dylan Subacz, ended the O.T. drama by blasting in his 11th goal in just two games as the Knights escaped with a 5-4 O.T. win. The Dragons’ super-sweepers Raunak Verma and Vikram Balaguru helped fuel their squad’s late-game comeback.
