Conversation leads to alleged assault
An alleged conversation between two customers of a Broadway bar resulted in three charges filed by police against a Bayonne woman.
On Jan. 23 at 8:24 p.m., police were called to the bar on the report of a disturbance.
According to Bayonne Police Lt. Janine Foy, a 54-year old male Bayonne resident at the bar allegedly began talking with another patron, Lisa M. Himmelreich, 55, of 34th Street, when Himmelreich’s 51-year-old boyfriend from Washington, N.J., allegedly began a verbal altercation with the victim, the 54-year old male.
“During that verbal argument, Lisa then [allegedly] pulled out a knife described as a black-handle folding knife with a 3-inch blade,” Foy said, “and she [allegedly] attempted to stab the victim with it.”
Another patron was able to disarm Himmelreich before the police arrived, according to Foy.
Himmelreich was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
She was later released on a summons.
There were no injuries.
Shoplifting escalates into robbery
A Jersey City man who allegedly shoplifted bed sheets from a Bayonne store was charged with a more serious crime after allegedly getting physical with another man, police said.
The incident occurred at a shop in the South Cove Commons shopping mall, 105 Lefante Way, on Jan. 23 at 4:39 p.m. and involved Andre J. Pierce, 52, of Fulton Avenue in Jersey City.
“Store security observed Pierce attempting to leave the store without [allegedly] paying for items,” said Police Lt. Janine Foy. “When he left the store, he was fleeing on a bike.”
In the parking lot, another man chased Pierce to the corner of Route 440 and 32nd Street, where he was eventually detained by the citizen, Foy said. While he was attempting to detain him, Pierce attempted to break free by allegedly shoving the other male, which upgraded his shoplifting charge to robbery.
Police arrived and placed Pierce under arrest without incident. The items he was allegedly attempting to take were eight packages of bed sheets, valued at $280.39. He was sent to the county jail on a $50,000 cash bail.
Adult, juvenile charged with disorderly conduct
Police were called to a reported fight on West 29th Street; the result was two Bayonne residents being charged with crimes, police said.
On Jan. 21 at 2:59 p.m., police were called to a location in front of 141 West 29th Street on the report of a fight between two men.
Officers encountered Joshua Walker, 22, of 19th Street. Walker allegedly refused to calm down and leave the area, and then allegedly attempted to push one of the officers out of his way, said Lt. Janine Foy. He was placed under arrest.
After Walker was handcuffed, and while he was being walked to the patrol car, a 15-year-old girl allegedly attempted to punch Walker, with one of the officers restraining her before she could make contact, according to Foy.
“She also refused to calm down, and in her struggle, wound up [allegedly] striking one of the officers in the face,” Foy said. “She was also placed under arrest.”
Walker was charged with disorderly conduct, and was released on a summons.
The juvenile was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing a governmental function, and resisting arrest. She was released to a guardian.
