A memorial service for Alfred S. Buda, 92, of Edgewater, formerly of Ridgefield, Weehawken and Hoboken, was held Jan. 28 at the St Ann’s RC Church, Hoboken. He passed away Jan. 24 at the Villa Marie Claire Hospice Care Center in Saddle River. Alfred was the husband of Madeline for 67 years; father of Ignatius Buda and his wife Theresa, Catherine Ball and her husband Christopher; brother of Frank Buda and sister Angela Scatina, and the late Joseph Buda. In addition, there are eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Al was a WWII Navy veteran in the South Pacific as a SeaBee. In 1950 he graduated Stevens Institute of Technology and was also the owner of a family painting business that was well known throughout the state of NJ. He was appointed by the governor of New Jersey as a Board of Trustee of the Industrial Schools of Hoboken. Member of the Holy Name Society of St. Ann’s and became a Trustee for 35 years. Member of the VFW, American Legion and became Exalted Ruler of the Weehawken Elks, Lodge number 1456. Known as “Captain Al” in the Cat’s Meow in Hoboken and a member of the Harmoneers in Ridgefield.
