HOBOKEN–The Office of Emergency Management has declared a snow emergency in advance of a major winter storm forecast to impact our area. The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for a “crippling and possibly historic blizzard” from Monday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. through midnight on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Snow accumulations of 20 to 30 inches or more, wind gusts up to 65 mph, life-threatening conditions, and extremely dangerous travel are forecast.
Due to the cold weather and potential for power outages, the Hoboken Community Emergency Response Team and OEM will open a warming center at the Wallace School, located at 1100 Willow Avenue, from Monday, Jan. 26 at 3:00 p.m. until Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 4:00 p.m. Whether it will open further remains to be seen (watch the city website.)
The county-wide homeless census had been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, but a representative from the Hudson County Division of Housing and Community Development confirmed that the survey would be postponed to a later date.
Hoboken Public Schools had an early dismissal at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26 and will close on Tuesday, Jan 27. The Hudson School closed at 12:15 p.m. Monday and remain closed on Tuesday.
