JERSEY CITY – Kathleen Peet, 37, of Rochelle Park (formerly Kathleen Sarmiento), the former production manager for the Music, Dance and Theater Department at New Jersey City University, was sentenced on Jan. 23 by Judge Mitzi Galis-Menendez in Hudson County Superior Court to three years in prison for embezzling $87,587 in box office receipts from university performances.
According to a release issued by Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman, Peet pleaded guilty on Nov. 18 to a charge of second-degree theft by unlawful taking.
In pleading guilty, Peet admitted that she stole a total of $87,857 from 2004 through 2013, while employed as the production manager for the Music, Dance and Theater Department. She is permanently barred from public employment and must pay full restitution. Peet previously paid $34,000 in restitution to the university, so she owes a balance of $53,587.
