Jets survive O.T. to win title

After registering an impressive 42-12 playoff victory over the Bears the (5-7) Colts took on the (8-2-1) first place Jets in the JCC of Bayonnes’ 2014 Jr. Division Indoor Flag Football Championship game. Both teams fought out to a 14-14 tie with the Jets Andres Giron (1TD, 2 expts) and Jake “Bavaro” Bellero (1TD) pacing their squad while the Colts one/two punch of Talen Alsop (1TD) and Roman Popowski (1TD 2expts) helped set the tone for their offense. Deadlocked at 14 all until late into the 4th quarter the underdog Colts grabbed a 22-14 lead as Alsop rumbled in for a TD followed by Popowski’s two point dash. Going to their air attack the Jets closed the margin to 22-20 as QB Dylan Subacz sailed a TD dart to Andres Giron. Leading by 2 points with 1:14 remaining the Colts fell prey to Brendan McCall, Aaliyana Cifuentes and Giron as the Jets defense swarmed in for a game tying safety. After driving the ball to half court the Jets offense ran aground sending the title bout into overtime with both teams frozen at 22. Winning the coin toss the Colts elected to go on offense first but after going three and out they faced a tall order as the needed to keep the Jets from scoring to get another shot at victory. It took the Jets just one play to settle the matter as Dylan Subacz swept 25 yards for the game winning score and the Championship title. A special mention must be given to the Colts Raunak Verma for his outstanding effort at QB.
