Stack opposes PATH service cuts

Dear Editor:

I write to express my full support for keeping the PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) service running on a 24-hour schedule-7 days a week. The recent proposal by a special bi-state panel to reduce PATH services is not a workable plan. In fact, instead of reducing services we should be increasing services to meet current needs.

In Hudson County, residents rely on public transportation to get to work, to doctors’ appointments and to meet the needs of their families. Not only is it critical for the current PATH service to remain in place, but it is also vital that other transportation services are improved. NJ Transit must step up to the plate and improve all bus services in Hudson County. The Jitney buses, which need increased state regulation, have been the subject of many complaints. However, Jitney buses would not be on the road if NJ Transit was providing adequate services for our communities. The PATH trains are clean, safe, and provide a good service for our residents. If the Port Authority wants to look at restructuring, they should look elsewhere; and not at the PATH.

Sincerely,

Senator Brian P. Stack
