Subacz, Johnson star for Charger

With the (6-2) Bengals on the brink of clinching the top seed in the JCC of Bayonne’s indoor flag football Sr. Division ”Championship Tournament”, the (3-5) Chargers set their sights on derailing the Bengals’ quest. The Bengals hit paydirt first as QB Drew Radil connected with Alex Camacho for a 30 TD strike. Down 6-0, the Chargers answered with a 20 yard TD pass to Jaden Subacz to tie the game at six all. Staying with a hot hand, the Chargers made it 14-6 as QB James Johnson once again found Subacz for a TD dart followed by Johnson’s two point sweep. With cannon arms blazing, the Bengals retied the bout at 14-14 as Drew Radil sailed a 25 yard TD pass and a two point lazer to his surehanded TE Alex Camacho. Working the ball up court with short strikes to Kasper Hooks and Jalen Nash, QB James Johnson finally cashed in with another TD pass to Subacz with Johnson tacking on a two point rush. With Camacho now drawing double coverage, the Bengals wisely shifted gears as Drew Radil went deep to the league’s leading scorer Jared Radil for a long TD bomb followed by Ian Giron’s two point grab as the game log jammed at 22-22. Battling to hold ground, the Chargers’ running attack kicked in a James Johnson bolted wire to wire on a third and long for a TD with Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes adding a two point snare making it 30-22, Chargers. One snap later, the Bengals answered as Alex Camacho hauled in his third TD catch while Kyle Arano’s two point catch made it 30-30 with four minutes remaining. After being kept at bay in the first half, the Chargers’ big man Kevin Aguilar found the endzone on a 10 yard option run for a 36-30 Chargers’ lead. Not to be outdone, the Bengals went goal to goal as Jared Radil latched on his 18th TD of the season to tie the game at 36-36. Brawling down stretch, the Chargers got a huge break when the speedster Alejandro Cifuentes turned a bobbled pass into a 15 yard TD jaunt as the Chargers took a 42-36 advantage with just 1:20 left to play. Turning to their fiery slot receivers, Andres Giron and Harsh Easwar, the Bengals took three shots at the endzone but the Chargers’ defense held up just long enough to clinch a 42-36 win.
