Giron’s 26 points fuel Jets

Sitting atop the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Jr. Division, the (2-0) Jets hoped to tighten their grip on first place as they took on the (0-2) Colts. The Jets stayed with their winning formula as Andres Giron dashed goal to goal on the game’s first play. Down 6-0, the Colts answered with Talen Alsop blazing 30 yards for a TD to knot the bout at 6 all. Staying true to form, the Jets built a 20-6 lead by grinding out two TDs as Dylan Subacz and Andres Giron rushed for long TDs while Giron also tacked on a 2 point sprint. Aiding his team’s cause, Giron also came up with a key interception to stall the Colts in Jet’s territory. Down by 14, the Colts put the ball in the hands of team captain Talen Alsop who bolted in for two coast to coast TD gallops to close the gap to 20-18, Jets. After two near misses to TE Jake Bellero and speedster Aaliyana Cifuentes, the Jets returned to their running game as Andres Giron notched his 3rd rushing TD on another goal to goal voyage to give the Jets a 26-18 advantage. Using the howitzer arm of Christian Mekheil and the shifty running skills of Roman Popowski, the Colts rolled into Jets’ territory only to be foiled by the Jets’ Dylan Subacz’s defensive ball hawking as Subacz returned an interception 35 yards for a TD and a 32-18 Jets’ lead. Undaunted, the Colts’ defense kicked in to register a two point safety by forcing a Jets fumble in the endzone. One play later, the Colts’ Talen Alsop raced full court for his 4th TD of the game to cut the Jets’ lead to 32-26. Needing a big defensive stop on third down, the Colts loaded up the box only to be done in by the Jets’ Andres Giron who hauled in a zone to zone TD dart on the games final play for a 38-26 Jets win.
