After a (2-0) start in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Sr. Division, the now
(3-3) Eagles hoped to regain their winning ways as they took on the (2-5) Chargers. Scoring on the game’s very first play, the Eagles’ James Bajor quickly tried to set a winning tone. Following his wire to wire TD grab, Bajor then tacked on a two point catch making it 8-0 before switching gears to defense where Bajor pilfered the Chargers’ first pass attempt. With Bajor ruling the airspace, the Eagles got off to a soaring start but the Chargers would not stay corralled for long. With James Johnson at the helm, the Chargers’ offense caught fire as Alejandro Cifuentes hauled in a driving TD grab cutting the Eagles’ lead to 8-6. Moments later, the Chargers’ offense landed another blow as Johnson rifled a coast to coast TD strike to Kevin Aguilar making it 12-8, Chargers. After a missed scoring opportunity on a dropped ball, the Chargers’ Jaden Subacz redeemed himself one play later with a defensive “picksix” followed by Cifuentes’s two point dash to put the Chargers up 20-8. With their offense held in check, the Eagles turned to Jacob Kowal, Ryan Ballance, and Chris Ballance to right the ship as quarterback Erik Solis peppered the Chargers’ defense with short passes. Moving deep into Chargers’ territory, the Eagles’ offense came up short as the drive stalled inches short of the endzone. Leading by 12, the Chargers kept firing away as Johnson once again found a wide open Kevin Aguilar for his second TD of the game while Jalen Nash’s two point rumble lifted the Chargers’ lead to 28-8. Poised to deliver a knockout punch, the Chargers’ offense finally misfired as the Eagles’ James Bajor picked off his second pass to set up a Solis to Bajor TD dart making it 28-14, Chargers. The Eagles got one more shot at the end zone but the Chargers’ free safety, Kasper Hooks tipped away the TD attempt.
