Most of us wake up daily, go to work, maybe some food shopping after or the gym, then home to the family. Some may go to another job and others may have no family at all. Some people may not have a home, apartment, or even a room to stay in.
I feel it’s important for all of us to really think hard and realize how much we really have to be thankful for. I, for one, am very thankful for everything. I remember growing up and my parents would always tell me how they “put a roof over my head and food on the table.” At the time, growing up I never really thought or comprehended how hard it really was for my parents. Over the years, though, I began to slowly understand and honestly it changed my life, forever. Life wasn’t easy for my parents growing up in a family of six kids but I am thankful to have them now each and every day.
These days, regardless of what we all read in the papers or see on TV, we all know that life has become tougher for the middle class. The middle class has been decimated and most are either living paycheck to paycheck or are earning below the poverty level and barely surviving.
There are many nonprofit organizations in Bayonne such as the Windmill Alliance, Victory Hall, Community Welfare International, and the freshly born Bayonne Initiative. These organizations as well as local church pantries could always use assistance either as a volunteer or a monetary donation. We all know Bayonne is full of very caring, thoughtful, dedicated, independent thinkers. There are also the less fortunate out there who need our help. Let’s not forget our own roots and continue to give back to our community.
Let’s make this holiday season a very special one by giving back to the community we all love. Together, we can make this holiday extra special for a special person or family.
