Pedestrian struck in Union City, on a respirator

UNION CITY – A 38-year-old resident of Union City was struck by a Ford van and critically injured Thursday afternoon at approximately 2 p.m. at the intersection of Bergenline Avenue and 32nd Street, according to a report from the Hudson County Sheriff’s office. Officers from the sheriff’s office and Union City police responded to the scene and found the victim lying unconscious in the middle of 32nd street, bleeding heavily from the head.
Witnesses stated that the victim ran into the path of the van and was hit and thrown, sustaining severe head injury. He was in the crosswalk but investigators have determined he was crossing against the light and that the driver of the van had little time to avoid the collision. The van was not exceeding the speed limit at the time of the incident.
The victim was rushed by Union City EMS to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition on a respirator as of Friday morning. Sheriff Frank Schillari stated that the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident and no charges had been filed.
